Cornelius Westervelt was a prominent druggist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. When about twenty he entered the store of Brown & Doty, where he learned his profession and subsequently was employed by Charles S. Mitchell, from whom he purchased the business in 1884. He was a member and treasurer of the Dutchess County Druggists' Association, and in the eighteen years of his business career amassed a considerable fortune.
