540   JACOB R., son of Roelof (278), was b. in New York, July 8, 1815. He m., first, Maria Hogencamp, May 7, 1836; and, second, Jane Maria Quackenbush, widow of John S. Van Orden, in 1865. He removed to Haverstraw, N.Y., and in 1865 settled at Spring Valley, N.Y., where he was actively engaged in business until 1896. His politics were Democratic, and for many years he held the offices of Tax Collector, Coroner and Poormaster. He d. Dec. 25, 1897, well known and respected.
